Reporting From the Dow Jones Private Equity Analyst Outlook Conference
The 2010 PEA Outlook Conference kicked off Tuesday morning in New York City and FINS.com was front and center in the event hall. Investors, fund managers and advisers from firms such as UBS, Bain Capital, Bank of America and The Blackstone Group were all in attendance to hear the forecast for the upcoming year in private equity. Keynotes and panels over the two days tackled challenges in fundraising, deal making, regulation, liquidity, and financing as well as strategies attendees could utilize to position their firms and produce lucrative deals and returns.
FINS reporters were on the scene and posted this update on hiring in PE in 2010.
Check out the agenda from this event and keep your eyes peeled for the next one here.

IRS Looking to Keep Tax Accountants Busy
We found this amazing video of IRS chief Douglas Shulman admitting that taxes are too complicated to do on your own.
Check out our take here.
And here’s the infamous clip:
FINS and The Wall Street Journal
We’ve got a great group of editors and reporters here at FINS. And, occasionally, we’re called on to write for The Wall Street Journal. WSJ has some of the best reporters in the world, so it’s always an honor to work with them; but they don’t have anyone with a laser focus on finance careers — our strength. It’s a good partnership.
Anyway, here’s our latest work for what I think is the best paper in the country:
– Yoree Koh writes for Career Journal on the next finance hiring hot spots
– Kyle Stock writes for Deal Journal on the still-confusing U.K. bonus tax
– Julie Steinberg writes for Deal Journal on the anatomy of this year’s crop of Wall Street bonuses
– Jeremy Greenfield
Busy in Santa’s Workshop
Hey FINS Fans,
It’s been a busy here in Santa’s workshop and we’ve spent the last couple of weeks making new toys for all the good little finance recruiters and job seekers. And, of course, we squeezed in in some holiday cheer. And by “cheer,” I mean “food.”
Over the course of the last two weeks we’ve eaten:
- Two tins of caramel popcorn
- One bag of honey wheat pretzels
- Two bags of Haribo Gummi Bears
- Four bags of Snyder’s Pretzels (Honey Mustard, Ranch and Buffalo Wing flavored)
- Two tins of Audrey’s amazing fudge
- Several bags of Weezie’s cookies
- Twizzlers — lots and lots of Twizzlers
And, between all the eating, we introduced some of these fun features:
- Revamped recruiter marketing pages
- FINS Special Report on finance bonus packages
- Improved error handling for profile creation
- Optimized job search functionality
- Fancy new registration emails for candidates and recruiters
- New widgets across The Wall Street Journal Digital Network
They’ll be a lot more food and features in the new year so be sure to stay off the Naughty List.
Have a safe and happy holiday!
FINS.com Reporter Julie Steinberg on Fox 5
Julie talks with Fox 5 about Wall Street bonuses and their impact on New York City.
Fox wanted to talk with her about a survey we conducted of 635 finance pros, asking them about their bonuses, how happy they are working in finance, and what they would tell America about the finance industry if they had the chance. We found some pretty interesting stuff.
Julie also wrote three other articles for us about Wall Street bonuses:
- The Anatomy of a Bonus (how much cash, stock, etc, will make up this year’s crop of bonuses)
- What Will Your Bonus Buy? (a fun look at what Wall Street pros might want to spend their money on this year)
- Bonuses, Bling Are Back (luxury retailers ready for the bonus season)
You can see the rest of our bonus 2009 coverage here.
